About Diana Matlock

Diana Matlock Everyone has an art -- an expression of self that adds flavor to the world. For some, it's data or oration or something athletic. (I had a friend whose art was cleaning and organizing. I miss her!) I come from an amazing family -- musicians, athletes, contractors, teachers. There was never any doubt that my art is the visual stuff we normally think of as, well, art. My family has a saying: my sister (now a professional musician) got the ear, I got the eye. After decades behind the lens of a camera, I decided I wanted to throw my own painting party for my birthday in 2014, and I wanted to try oils this time. In 4 days, my sister, brother-in-law, niece and I cranked out 19 paintings! (Thank you, Bob Ross, for getting us going.) That's it. I'm a painter. I paint. During that marathon painting party, my sister created a beautifully simple scene of lighted boats on a misty lake headed out between hills all under a soft grey sky. Every time I look at it, I'm transported and can't help but breathe and relax. I'll tell you my stuff isn't anything special (although an effective marketer would tell you precisely what's special about it), but creating it makes me happy. Thank you for visiting and wandering through some images. If something has come out of the end of my brush or shown up through the lens of my camera that makes you pause and breathe, my goal is accomplished! In 2016, I switched to acrylic simply for the convenience. What a fun journey acrylics is turning out to be! And tremendous thanks to my sister, best friend, sometimes secretary/manager/agent, and always my biggest fan and cheerleader, who originally gathered the photos, and first posted and managed the offerings here -- effectively launching me, via Fine Art America and Facebook, into the public for the first time in more years that I will admit openly. We make a few bucks off of each sale -- intentionally only a few! to keep prices low -- which go into a fund that we use for periodic sisterly outings.
